The Chief Administrative Officer, or CAO, has been directed by the Hoima District Roads Committee to retrieve twenty million shillings from Julius Ssentamu, the former district engineer.
The 15-kilometer Kakindo-Nyamirima road in the Kyabigambire sub-county was intended to be restored. In their committee report for December 2021, Bugahya County Member of Parliament Pius Wakabi and the chairperson of the Hoima District Committee issued the directive.
The report states that although Ssentamu, who was moved to the Rakai district, took the money out in the 2018–19 fiscal year, the road has not been fixed as of yet. He claims the engineer should be forced to return the money because he stole it for personal benefit.
The Hoima Chief Administrative Officer, or CAO, Elias Byamungu, states that because he is still new to the position, he only recently learned about the issue from the members of the district roads committee.
He has pledged to investigate the situation thoroughly before acting appropriately. Ssentamu told URN that the aforementioned road was completed even though the Inspectorate of Government (IG) had been contacted because of certain irregularities in the payments.
The Hoima district’s majority of crumbling roads make it difficult for people to move around and access services and goods.
